Description
René COURSON (1940–2012). Mushroom-shaped lamp in yellow and brown marbled glass. Black lacquered iron frame. Monogrammed on the reverse. (H: 48 cm) (two bubbles caused by firing defects) René Courson, a glass craftsman, began his career at the Blérancourt crystal works. When it closed, he moved to the glassworks at Nouvion-en-Thiérache, then to the one at Sauvigny, before moving to Belgium to work at the Boussu glassworks (in Belgium). It was in the Creuse, at the Pierre de Lune crystal works in Gouzon, that he ended his career. In keeping with the tradition of glassmakers, René Courson produced numerous ‘bousillages’ – original pieces made during breaks, intended as gifts or to settle the craftsman’s debts.
