Description
René COURSON (1940–2012). Mushroom-shaped lamp in polychrome marbled glass on an orange background. Black lacquered iron frame. Monogrammed on the reverse. (H.: 34 cm) René Courson, a glass craftsman, began his career at the Blérancourt crystal works. When it closed, he moved to the glassworks in Nouvion-en-Thiérache, then to that in Sauvigny, before moving to Belgium to work at the Boussu glassworks (in Belgium). It was in the Creuse, at the Pierre de Lune crystal works in Gouzon, that he ended his career. In keeping with the tradition of glass craftsmen, René Courson produced numerous ‘bousillages’ – original pieces made during breaks, intended as gifts or to settle the craftsman’s debts.
