Description
René COURSON (1940–2012). A baluster vase in green and yellow marbled glass, with a fluted neck, resting on a clear glass pedestal. Monogrammed on the reverse. (H.: 25.5 cm) René Courson, a glass craftsman, began his career at the Blérancourt crystal works. When that closed, he moved to the glassworks at Nouvion-en-Thiérache, then to the one at Sauvigny, before moving to Belgium to work at the Boussu glassworks (in Belgium). It was in the Creuse, at the Pierre de Lune crystal works in Gouzon, that he ended his career. In keeping with the tradition of glassmakers, René Courson produced numerous ‘bousillages’ – original pieces made during breaks, intended as gifts or to settle the craftsman’s debts.
