Description
René COURSON (1940–2012). A set of five hand-blown glass fruits left in their natural state, comprising a strawberry, a lemon, a pear, an orange and a green apple. (H. (pear): 14.5 cm)
René Courson, a glass craftsman, began his career at the Blérancourt crystal works. When it closed, he moved to the glassworks in Nouvion-en-Thiérache, then to the one in Sauvigny, before moving to Belgium to work at the Boussu glassworks (in Belgium). It was in the Creuse, at the Pierre de Lune crystal works in Gouzon, that he ended his career. In keeping with the tradition of glassmakers, René Courson produced numerous ‘bousillages’ – original pieces made during breaks, intended as gifts or to settle the craftsman’s debts.
