Description
Paul WAENDENDRIES (1991–1991). Sideboard in walnut and walnut veneer with rich carved decoration of fruit and flowers, comprising a central section with a display cabinet adorned with hammered wrought-iron arches in the style of Edgar Brandt, a top of pink veined marble, and two corner sections on either side with shelves featuring marquetry borders and drapery with simulated tassels. The arched doors are in burl walnut veneer. The niches have bevelled glass backs. With three keys.
A piece from the 1950s in the Art Deco style.

Provenance: Part of a complete set of furniture from an estate in Soissons
Born into a family of architects and interior designers, Paul WAENDENDRIES, an architect and interior designer, was born in Soissons in 1911. Trained at the École Boulle, he set up his furniture shop at the junction of Rue du Commerce and Place Fernand Marquigny in Soissons. The shop sign is still visible today (a ‘Ameublement’ sign and a ‘PW’ monogram in wrought iron).
The Soissons Museum holds a collection of furniture designed for the 1937 International Exhibition, as well as designs in gouache and watercolour.
