The Triumph of Mordecai was painted by Jean-François de Troy around 1736 as a sketch, then as a tapestry cartoon in 1739 for the tapestry series ‘The Story of Esther’ commissioned for the Gobelins Manufactory.
The composition of the tapestry series *The Story of Esther*, based on Jean-François de Troy’s work, was reproduced in copper engravings by engravers of the period to disseminate these biblical scenes in the form of prints.
