A limited edition of 675 numbered copies; this is one of the numbered copies featuring pre-letter etchings on Hollande paper from this unique print run. It was printed to mark the eponymous exhibition in Paris in June 1883, which brought together 100 paintings by great classical and modern masters. The text is illustrated with 50 separate plates and 50 engravings within the text.
The cover is in very poor condition, with the front and back covers separated from the spine; there is slight water-stain on the margin of the title page; some plates are somewhat foxed; and there are other minor defects.
