Description
Bronze medallion depicting Andrzej Artur Zamoyski, based on a design by H. A. Stattler, 1851 design, with mounting ring, diameter 18 cm, height 19 cm. Andrzej Artur Zamoyski was a Polish nobleman, landowner and political and economic activist. He organised meetings of landowners at his estate in Klemensow during the Polish Congress. He became co-editor of the *Rocznik Gospodarstwa Krajowego* (Polish Agricultural Yearbook). In 1848, he founded the Steam Navigation Company and subsequently monopolised transport on the Vistula. He also initiated the construction of steamships. He was the founder and president of an agricultural society. He was an opponent of Aleksander Wielopolski and a leading figure in the Biali (The Whites) political faction. Exiled in September 1863, he settled in France and became a member of the Great Polish Emigration. In 1872, he was elected to the Polish Academy of Learning.
