L'ARISTARQUE Français, a political, historical and literary journal. 1815–1816. 272 issues in two volumes. 21 by 34 cm. Contemporary half-basane. Covers rubbed, one spine missing. Interior in very good condition. Founded in 1799 under the title *L’Aristarque Français, journal universel*, by Jean-Louis VOIDET (1769–1839). Commissioner of War, then journalist and publisher, convicted several times for press offences. The newspaper ceased publication in 1816, only to be relaunched in 1820 under the title *L’Aristarque français, journal du soir*. We present here the complete run of this newspaper as it appeared under its second title, from No. 1 (1 May 1815) to No. 272 (27 January 1816). The National Library of France is mistaken in stating that it ceased publication at issue 262. The issues of the newspaper bear the Royal Seal of the Seine. The newspaper chronicles the unrest of this second Restoration in its very early stages, and includes, for example, an account of Marshal NEY’s trial before the Chamber of Peers, following the Hundred Days…
