Description
The Coronation of Louis XV, King of France and Navarre, in Reims Cathedral, on Sunday the 25th of October MDCCXXII.
A large in-plano volume, atlas format, with a full brown morocco cover gilded with a centre-stamped royal coat of arms. Entirely engraved on copper, comprising 72 plates, of which 33 contain text and 39 illustrations: 30 plates of portraits in costume and 9 engraved scenes on large fold-out sheets depicting the coronation ceremonies.
Published by Antoine Danchet under the supervision of Jean-Paul Bignon and Claude Gros de Boze.
This major work had been in preparation since the coronation of Louis XV in 1722 and was presented to the king in 1731. The frontispiece, engraved by Larmessin, bears no place, date or publisher’s name, as it was a personal gift to the King.
