Description
Set of various objects, North Africa, 19th - 20th century. A pair of red leather shoes embroidered with metallic threads, L. 26.5 cm; a koumiyya dagger, with curved blade and cast and chased silver fittings of plant scrolls enhanced with red enamels, L. 39.5 cm; a rose-water aspersor with globular body and long tapering neck, in silver with chased and embossed floral decoration, the body partly lined with red velvet, a woven metal-wire thong tied around the neck, 19th century, H. 37 cm; a small leather pouch covered in red velvet and embroidered with a floral design in metallic threads, openwork leather flaps inside, 8 x 13.8 cm; a matching silver powder flask and cylindrical case, repoussé and chased with a floral design enhanced by facetted coral (?) pearls flanked by filigree, L. 11.5 and 16.5 cm. As is, with wear, accidents and chips. A pair of Tuareg leather sandals. L. 26.5 cm. Provenance: Former collection of Mr Griège, a railway engineer at the end of the 19th century, then by descent.
