Description
Sabre of the Imperial Guard of Honour of the city of Strasbourg. Brass mountings. A so-called ‘battle’ guard, with one main prong and four secondary prongs, and an openwork shell. Wooden hilt wrapped in leather, inlaid with twisted copper wire. Flat-backed blade with a double fuller, engraved one-third of the way up on one side within an oval cartouche with the inscription ‘Imperial Guard of Honour of the City of Strasbourg’ and ‘Coulaux Frères’ at the pommel, on the other side, the Imperial Eagle and military attributes, and at the heel ‘Manufacture de Klingenthal’. Leather scabbard with three brass fittings.
