Description
France, late 18th – early 19th century Officer’s sword. Gilded brass mountings. Wooden tang with a filigree brass chain. Lyre-shaped guard, indented at the front and featuring a palmette at the back. The blade is partially gilded and engraved with trophies of arms in the middle third, and signed in a cartouche: ‘J. Spol, Swordmaker in Metz’. Missing its scabbard. Minor signs of wear. Length approx. 99 cm
