Hutchinson was founded in 1853 in Châlette-sur-Loing (Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire), 100 km south of Paris, by Hiram Hutchinson. This American entrepreneur, a recent immigrant to France, had filed the first French patent for the vulcanisation of rubber, the basis for the manufacture of his first product: ‘A l’Aigle’ boots, designed to keep feet dry. In 1890, Hutchinson moved into the manufacture of bicycle tyres. By 1905, Hutchinson had already turned his attention to the automotive sector. In 1910, Hutchinson entered the aeronautics industry.
