Description
POTTINGER (Henry) Travels in Baluchistan and Sindh, followed by a geographical and historical description of these two countries. Translated from the English by J.-B.-B. Eyriès. Gide fils, Paris, 1818 2 vols. Contemporary brown half-basane with small corners, plain spine. A frontispiece for the first volume. Fold-out map at the end of the second volume. Marginal water damage slightly affecting some pages of Volume I. Henry Pottinger (1789–1856) undertook an expedition to Baluchistan (a region straddling Pakistan and Iran) in 1806. He was one of the first Europeans to venture into these virtually unknown lands and the first to provide a detailed description of them.
