Description
BARNUM’S GREAT CIRCUS. A very rare set of toys comprising various painted figures depicting circus scenes: ladders, parallel bars, a trapeze, an elephant, two horses (one with a rider), a lion, a pig, three dogs, three clowns, a trainer and a dancer. Circa 1900–1910. This piece is reminiscent of the work of the manufacturer BON DUFOUR, who produced similar sets in the early 20th century. Box measures 50 x 33 cm; has some damage and missing pieces (some figures have been re-glued). A similar set is listed in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs under inventory number 50866.
