Description
Bedside holy water font. Carved from corozo. Bell-shaped base decorated with foliage. The basin is adorned with religious motifs, featuring, in the centre, a radiant monstrance, flanked on either side by two cruets and two candlesticks, complemented by a tabernacle, a bishop’s mitre, a jug placed on a table, vine branches and, behind the cross, an open Bible. The basin is surmounted by the Crucifixion, with the Virgin Mary and, unusually and curiously, a Capuchin monk (replacing the usual Saint John) at the foot of the cross, which is adorned with a rear buttress in imitation masonry. 19th century.
