Southern ITALY (Naples).
Madonna and Child.
Full-length figure, with head and hands in wood and terracotta, painted in polychrome; the garment is in beige silk with gold cannetille embroidery (some damage and wear); the cloak is in black velvet with a patterned design and sequins. Glass eyes. The Infant Jesus is dressed in a robe (with some wear and tear) and wears a metal mesh crown. Probably Naples, late 18th–early 19th century. H: 36 cm. Modern wooden base.
The garments of these figures were embroidered and made by women of the Neapolitan bourgeoisie.
