The Fort Saint André at Villeneuve lez Avignon in the Gard is depicted in this work by the Master, overlooking the Rhône. This building was erected in the 10th century. It was an abbey built around the tomb of Casarie, who dedicated his life to God in the 6th century. In 1960, the first Yves Brayer museum was opened in the main hall of Cordes-sur-Ciel town hall. Since 2006, these works have formed part of the collections of the new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, housed in the beautiful Gothic house known as the "Grand Fauconnier", alongside works by Picasso and Léger.
