Description
Technology - Philippe Fauré dit Foré (1927-2018) - SNCF PLM, Le Rhodanien, 1971. Printed by Dufournet. 99x62cm. Original poster, lithograph, canvas covered. Condition A.
Originally in 1964 this train RGP X 2770 used the Rhone Valley trench running from Geneva to Marseille via Culoz, Chambéry, Challes les Eaux, Grenoble, Valence and Avignon. It was replaced in 1971 by the Paris-Lyon-Marseille line, and it was on this occasion that this poster was commissioned.
A very similar poster, entitled Le Lyonnais, 1970, won the Golden Siren award in Milan. Philippe Fauré is a great poster artist who worked alongside Maxime Dufour, Arman and Paul Colin. Extremely sympathetic and accessible, his works, now over 50 years old, remain futuristic and avant-garde. This one in particular is sure to go down as one of the monuments of advertising graphics in the second half of the 20th century.
