Description
Exhibition - Anonymous - Exposition du progrès social, Lille Roubaix May-October 1939. 100x62cm. Original offset and lithographed poster, not canvas-backed. Condition A. This rare poster announces an important exhibition which was halted by the Second World War. The Progrès Social exhibition was a project of the mayor of Roubaix, Jean-Baptiste Lebas, and the mayor of Lille, Roger Salengro. It was halted by the outbreak of the Second World War, and closed its doors on 3 September. It was an international event, with pavilions from Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. A kind of World's Fair in miniature, its aim was to set an example of France's policy of rebuilding the devastated regions of the North and East during the First World War.
