The Aquitania, a sister ship to the Lusitania, is pictured in New York harbour, with the famous Brooklyn Bridge in the background, a symbol of the city and an architectural icon. A prestige liner belonging to the Cunard Line, it operated the transatlantic service between Liverpool, Southampton and New York, linking Europe and the United States in the golden age of transatlantic travel. The three classes of passenger are visible on the structure of the ship, testifying to the luxury and comfort of the British company. The Aquitania was nicknamed "the ship of four lives" because she served successively as a luxury liner, auxiliary cruiser, hospital ship and troop transport. Famous as one of the last great liners with four stacks, she remains an essential symbol of maritime history and the great Atlantic crossings.
