Description
Tobacco - Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) - I only smoke The Nile. 1912. Printed by Vercasson. 159.5x117.5cm/ 62.7x4.3in. Original poster, lithograph, not canvas-backed. Condition A-. The Bardou heirs owned the "Job" brand of cigarette paper. In the 1870s, they relocated part of their production to Egypt, which gave them the idea of creating the "Le Nil" brand. If the Charente company has always flourished, it's partly thanks to the strength of their poster campaigns, produced by the great artists of the day. But it wasn't until 1912 and this poster by Cappiello that the brand became iconic thanks to this elephant.
