Description
Tourism - Roger Broders (1883-1953) - Villard de Lans, The Children's Paradise. 1930. Printer Lucien Serre, Paris. 99x62cm. Original poster, lithograph, canvas-backed. Condition A-, traces of tears and canvas defects.
The reputation of the Vercors massif's high altitude and its remoteness from large conurbations enabled the Isère commune to open its first sanatorium in 1922, under the aegis of the Institut d'Hygiène de la Ville de Paris. In 1926, the communes of the canton decided to give priority to the care of "fragile" but healthy children by authorising the creation of local facilities known prosaically as "aériums". We're more used to seeing posters promoting skiing in this region of Auvergne, and you can see the snow in the background. But this is a very special poster.
