Description
Artist - Elisabeth Sonrel (1874-1953) - Fleurs des Eaux. Circa 1900. 66x28cm. Original poster, lithograph, canvas-backed. Condition A-, marginal tear, a small perforation in the lower margin. Sonrel identified with the Pre-Raphaelite art movement after visiting Florence and Rome, where she was influenced by Renaissance art and the painter Botticelli. This influence blended with the master of her time Mucha, to whom she imbued the curves of Art Nouveau. This panel in the Flowers series shows water lilies and marsh irises, two favourite flowers of the Belle Epoque. She loved and knew nature thanks to her many visits to Brittany.
