Show - Jules Alexandre Grün (1868-1934) - Moulin Rouge, Theatre, Concept. 1904. Printed by Thil. 88x128,80cm. Original poster, lithograph, canvas covered. Condition A-, minor traces of restoration. References: Weill, Perry n°69.
One of the greatest poster artists of the Belle Epoque for one of the most beautiful theatres in Paris, at the foot of the Butte Montmartre. The Moulin Rouge reopened in 1903 after renovation work, transforming its style of entertainment from a dance hall to a music hall and cabaret. This image was the first poster used to promote the venue and was so well received that the Moulin Rouge used it again and again. The artist summed up the life of the night owls with these giggling cocottes, the bourgeois reveller and the drunken troufion of the Garde Républicaine. Rare variant before the text.
