What better way to showcase the department than to illustrate its most famous monument, Mont Blanc in the Alps.
In 1927, Fontanarosa entered the École Estienne in Paris, where he joined the lithographic drawing workshop. A prize won at the school enabled him to travel to Tunisia in 1931. He exhibited his work at the Galerie l'Archipel alongside Mané-Katz and Oguiss. In 1932, he began his training as a free student in Lucien Simon's studio at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, a place where you could work in complete freedom. He made friends with his classmates, including André Hambourg, Jean Navarre and Georges Rohner. He left for the Villa Médicis in January 1937, under the direction of Paul Landowski, where he stayed until March 1939. Lucien Fontanarosa was made a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1955.
