Lot no. 370
Description
Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - Normandy. SNCF.1970. Dreager printer. 99x62cm / 39x24,3in. Original poster. Draeger process. Condition A. Not canvas-backed.
The visual shown here is part of the "Butterflies" suite of 6 works used to illustrate posters promoting the French regions. Dali's style was obviously surreal, but he didn't forget to serve his subject, tourism, with an emblematic monument: Mont St Michel.
These posters are considered to be the last true artists' posters produced for the French railways.
In photo 2, you can see that Dali was at the presses to check the print run (the photo is not for sale).
