Claude Rives, who was born on 11 April 1947 in Angers and died on 24 February 2023 in Vendôme, was a French reporter-photographer specialising in underwater photography. He is regarded as one of France's pioneers in the field of underwater photography, and took part in scientific missions in all the world's oceans. An expert in deep diving, many of his research projects are rooted in long-term observation, leading him to tackle themes as diverse as the decline of coral reefs, oil-related disasters, the wrecks of the Second World War and the preservation of the environment in National Parks.
