To promote tourism in Monaco, and Monte Carlo in particular, and to illustrate the sunshine of the Côte d'Azur, the pin-up painter chose to depict not Brigitte Bardot, but her model at the time, Nadine Lhopitalier, the future Nadine de Rothschild.
