The Place et la fontaine des Quatre-Dauphins is the subject the artist chose to represent this historic town in the Bouches du Rhône region. This fountain, built in the Mazarin district in the 17th century, is the work of the sculptor Jean Claude Rambot. The district was intended to be modern, and was laid out on a checkerboard pattern in accordance with the false symmetrical composition shown on our poster. The view is botanically incorrect, as the poster shows plane trees, when in fact they are chestnut trees.
