Description
A naval officer's sabre model 1848, second republic. Gilt bronze mounting, guard forming an openwork shell decorated with laurel branches with a naval anchor in the centre, resting on a bundle of flags. The main branch hooks onto the cap with an opening for the lanyard to pass through. Long-tailed cap decorated with a fleuron and laurel branches. Horn handle, watermark missing. Blade with gutter and flat back. Leather scabbard with three gilt bronze fittings. The lanyard is present. Very good condition.
