Description
Takouba (Tuareg sabre), Niger / Sahel, 19th-20th century. Takouba type sabre with long, narrow, straight steel blade, showing traces of longitudinal grooves and workshop marks. Characteristic mount comprising a straight brass guard with engraved geometric decoration, attached by rivets. Simple grip (formerly sheathed), extended by a typical discoid pommel. Representative of the traditional weapons of the Tuareg populations of the Sahel (Niger, Mali). Blade length 83 cm. In used condition. Blade with patina, oxidation and pitting. Mounting shows wear and minor bumps. Good condition.
