Description
Basque Makila with concealed dagger, 20th century. Traditional Basque wooden makila with horn pommel, engraved metal ferrule and shaft covered with leather braid. It contains a dagger with a steel blade concealed in the cane, unscrewing at the pommel. The ferrule is engraved with the inscription: "ENE BIDEKO LAGUNA" (Basque expression meaning "travelling companion"). Length 89 cm. Basque craftsmanship, probably second half of the 20th century. Good condition. Traces of use. Slight patina on the metal frame.
