Description
Far Eastern system cane with carved and engraved decoration, 20th century. A simulated bone or ivory cane, finely engraved with Asian-inspired figurative scenes depicting people, landscapes and scenes of daily life, enhanced with polychrome (notably red and black). The black wood pommel is carved in the shape of a stylised elephant, inlaid with circular lozenges decorated with Asian characters. The segmented shaft is continuously decorated with meticulous engraving and pyrography. The cane unscrews into two parts, revealing an internal system (removable cane), with metal threads. A fine object of curiosity, with meticulous decorative work. Total length 88 cm. Wear from use, slight alterations and patina, small visible traces of restoration.
