Verdun commemorative medal - First World War. Round bronze medal commemorating the Battle of Verdun. Obverse: profile of a helmeted soldier, legend "ILS NE PASSERONT PAS", the famous motto associated with the defence of Verdun in 1916. Engraver Verdier's signature. Reverse: stylised representation of the monumental gateway to Verdun, framed by laurel branches, with the inscription "VERDUN" and the date 1916.
