Description
German model 98 bayonet for Mauser rifle (Second World War). German regulation bayonet intended for the Mauser 98 rifle, with handle in ribbed brown bakelite plates, fixed by screws. Steel frame with characteristic curved quillon and functional push-button lock. Straight fuller blade with legible maker's markings: "Gottlieb Hammesfahr, Solingen-Foche", with triangular emblem. Secondary markings and numbering visible on the back of the blade. Original single strap metal scabbard, showing extensive even oxidation. Condition: Blade with traces of oxidation, pitting and wear, but markings still legible. Mounting and grip in used condition, consistent patina. Scabbard heavily oxidised but complete. Homogeneous, not cleaned.
