Description
A Bargueno, or Spanish travelling cabinet, made of walnut and resting on a table. It features a bolt lock, iron hooks and cleats on the sides, and a flap decorated with iron fittings against a fabric background. The interior features numerous carved drawers and doors, with shell-shaped iron drawer pulls, and panelling alternating between motifs of small columns and chiselled bone lozenges. The trestle-style base with arched panels features carved pull-handles in the form of masks supporting the hinged lid. Two iron handles on the sides for carrying. Signs of wear on the lower part of the table. Triangular wrought-iron key. Spain, late 16th to early 17th century – overall height: 138. Dimensions of the chest: 56.5 x 96 x 43 cm.
