Description
The Borne, attributed to Marie Talbot (1814–1874). A rare, satirical, anthropomorphic jug in salt-glazed stoneware, in honey-brown and ochre, depicting the ‘Curé d’Argenton’. The neck is modelled as a face with expressive features, topped with a wide tricorn hat. The neck is accentuated by a pleated ruff from which a clerical collar emerges. The truncated conical body is adorned with a delicate relief decoration imitating the pleats of a cassock, ending in a frieze of draped festoons at the base. The handle is serrated. 19th century.
