Description
Georges François DE GEETERE (1859–1929). Charles Catteau period. Rare Art Deco Boch Keramis vase with a stylised fruit decoration in enamel. Made circa 1922–1925. Handwritten signature and the mark ‘B.F.K. 22’. This piece is one of the few surviving examples of the ceramic works by the Belgian painter, who was a pupil of Jean François Portaels. A member of the ‘L’Essor’ group and the ‘Pour l’Art’ movement, he joined the Boch Keramis factory in 1894. In 1897, he was awarded a gold medal at the Brussels International Exhibition for his work at Boch. He worked there until the late 1920s, and the influence of Charles Catteau, who joined the La Louvière-based factory in 1906, is evident. Height: 35 cm.
