Description
Belgian cinema. A tribute to and remembrance of Henri XHONNEUX (1945–1995) and his cult Belgian film, made in collaboration with Roland TOPOR (1938–1997): MARQUIS (1989), inspired by the writings of the Marquis de Sade, in which the actors appear wearing grotesque, animal-like masks. Our collection comprises six prototype latex busts, two phallic-inspired masks and a polystyrene male head. Along with these busts, we are including: - a gouache on paper mounted on a panel depicting the filmmaker, signed ‘Hugo’; it is annotated at the bottom and bears a dedication on the reverse: ‘To Henri Xhonneux in memory of the days of the Arriflex 35 II’. - A film clapperboard annotated in chalk: “Marquis / Roland Topor / Henri Xhonneux / date 89 / Scene 1” - Three DVDs of the film. - An album containing 42 colour photographs illustrating very explicit scenes from the film. - A copy of *Le Vif l’Express* dated 6 November 2009, featuring an article on this collection which we are offering for sale; the collection was showcased at the 33rd Salon Antica Namur (November 2009). - Page 48 of the Antica Namur 2009 catalogue, dedicated to the Arts et Regards gallery (now defunct), which had exhibited this collection and made it the centrepiece of the 2009 fair. The set of masks is illustrated there.
