Description
ROLEX Oyster Octagon model watch with a hand-wound mechanical movement. Octagonal case in 9K yellow gold (375/1000), made for the British market, 32 mm in diameter. Cream-coloured, patinated dial with applied gold-plated Arabic numerals, railway-track minute track, blued hands, small seconds at 6 o’clock, fluted screw-down crown, screw-down caseback engraved with the initials ‘T.E.B’. Reference: s.n. Serial number: 30174. Circa 1930. Gross weight: 31.80 g. Historical note: a rare first-generation octagonal Oyster model, produced in the context of Rolex’s launch of the Oyster case in 1926 and its promotion following Mercedes Gleitze’s crossing of the English Channel in 1927. The 9K gold examples are characteristic of the British market, where the 9-carat standard corresponds to 375/1000; several comparable octagonal Oysters are known with cases marked R.W.C. Ltd and bearing British hallmarks, notably Glasgow 1928. The movement is in working order at the time of writing, though no future guarantee is given. The case is in good condition; the crown is slightly oxidised. The brown leather strap is in fair condition.
