Description
Photograph album by Sergeants Mulliner and Patterson, 461st Bomb Group – 15th Air Force – Italy (31 original photographs) This album contains high-quality large-format photographs (8x10in/20–25cm) taken by two non-commissioned officers posted to the 766th Bomb Squadron as the squadron’s flight photographer and photographic laboratory technician. The two men and their specialities were identified using the following link, which contains the list of members of the 766th Bomb Squadron; their roles were identified using codes 940 and 941 via the link on the website’s home page. Their names were taken from the alphabetical index of the 461st BG via the following link: https://461st.org/Roster/Roster%20766th.htm The 461st Bomb Group was based at Toretta in southern Italy, near the town of Cerignola, famous for the dome of its church, which can be seen in one of the aerial views. This file also contains a number of documents on the accuracy of the bombing raids carried out by the various Bomb Groups of the 15th Air Force during August 1944, the mission over Munich on 4 October 1944 and a page from the calendar for July 1944, as well as the dates of missions carried out by the 461st BG during 1944. All these documents are reproduced on photographic paper, which was the only way to make photocopies at the time. (Grégory Pons Collection)
