Description
Historical book: ‘The Story of the Crusaders: The 386th Bomb Group (M) in World War II’ – 9th Air Force This book, written and edited by Lieutenant-Colonel Barnett B. “Skip” Young, is the definitive reference work on the 386th Bomb Group. This unit, equipped with B-26 Marauders, was part of the 9th Air Force and was responsible for medium-altitude tactical bombing missions; one of its specialities was the destruction of bridges over the Seine to slow the German army’s retreat following the D-Day landings. This is a copy of the original 1988 edition. As it is a limited-edition book published by an association at the time, it is now mainly sought after by collectors and military historians. This book traces the complete history of the operations carried out by the group in occupied Europe. It draws heavily on personal accounts, recollections and anecdotes provided directly by veterans of the unit. The book is richly illustrated with period black-and-white photographs, military maps detailing flight paths, and precise summaries of their various tactical bombing missions. This book documents the day-to-day use and challenges associated with the twin-engine Martin B-26 Marauder bomber, as well as the A-26 Invader, which replaced the Marauder within the 386th BG during the final months of operations. 175 pages. Book in English. (Grégory Pons Collection)
