Historical book ‘447th Bomb Group’ – 8th Air Force This book, written by Doyle Shields in 1996, is the official chronicle of the wartime operations of the 447th Bomb Group, which was equipped with B-17 Flying Fortresses. It is an excellent complement to the very first book devoted to this unit. This is a copy of the first edition. The author, Doyle Shields, flew 50 combat missions as a navigator with the 447th BG. After completing a full tour of 30 missions, he volunteered for a second, particularly gruelling tour. After the war, Shields continued his career in aviation. He became the pilot of Air Force II, transporting prominent figures, including Vice-Presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson. A rare book in its first edition. 334 pages. Published in English.
