Description
NORMAND, Charles.
A miscellaneous collection of plans and elevations, designs for town and country houses, monuments, and public and private buildings.
Paris, published by the author, printed by Gillé, 1815.
Large oblong folio, 7 single-sided preliminary leaves (titles, illustration of the work and table of plates), followed by 53 numbered plates and 10 duplicate plates, making a total of 63 engraved plates.
An important collection of civil architecture, compiled, engraved and published by the architect Charles Normand, bringing together model plans and elevations for town and country houses, as well as for various monuments and public or private buildings. The work follows in the tradition of the great collections of architectural models from the early 19th century, at a time when the Neoclassical style still largely dominated façades, featuring pediments, porticoes, symmetrical arrangements and regular compositions.
A highly attractive album of plates, sought after for the quality of its engravings, for its documentary value regarding domestic architecture, and for its decorative appeal.
Good condition: scattered foxing, rubbed covers, worn corners.
Expert: Mr Geoffroi PICARD DU CHAMBON
