Description
SARDOU, Victorien; GUILLAUMOT fils, A. Costumes from the Directoire period, taken from *Les Merveilleuses*, with a letter from Mr Victorien Sardou. Paris, Rouquette, 1875. Folio, 12 pp. of text, accompanied by 30 etchings by A. Guillaumot fils; the volume also includes a portrait of Victorien Sardou drawn and engraved by Guillaumot père. A charming collection of costumes inspired by the aesthetics of the Directoire period, based on drawings by Eugène Lacoste and Draner, etched by Guillaumot the Younger. The collection reflects the historicist taste of the second half of the nineteenth century for the elegance of the Revolution and the Directoire period, here presented with a particularly captivating decorative flair. A work sought after by enthusiasts of costume, illustration and books on fashion alike. The letter from Victorien Sardou, which forms part of the scholarly and theatrical rediscovery of the Directoire period, further enhances its appeal. In fairly good condition: scattered foxing Expert: Mr Geoffroi PICARD DU CHAMBON
