A very substantial folio volume, in a contemporary full vellum binding formerly restored with a brown leather spine – Text in two columns, 5 ff. + 2096 columns (1048 pp.) + 170 pp. (Complementum) - Title page adorned with a large engraved typographic mark. An important Latin legal lexicon from the early 17th century, a veritable reference work bringing together civil law, canon law, feudal law and criminal law, as well as the principal terms of legal practice and doctrine. The work is presented as a comprehensive dictionary of jurisprudence, intended for both study and use by the bar and legal practitioners, and compiled from the principal ancient and modern jurists. The author, Joannes Kahl (1548–1614), was a jurist and professor of law at Heidelberg. This is the second edition, expanded and very carefully revised. In fair condition: stained covers, missing leather on the spine, cracked joints; interior in fair condition with foxing and slight browning; the first ten pages are creased at the bottom corner.
