ROBERTSON, William. Thesaurus linguae sanctae compendiosè scil. contractus, planè tamen reseratus, pleneque explicatus; sive, Concordantiale lexicon Hebræo-Latino-Biblicum; una cum Concordantiis Hebraicis... London: Samuel Roycroft for George Sawbridge, 1680. A substantial quarto volume, in a contemporary full calf binding, ribbed spine, cold-stamped covers – 1,328 pages. All edges red. An important scholarly work devoted to the biblical Hebrew language, conceived as a comprehensive Hebrew-Latin concordance lexicon. The work is presented as a reference tool intended for scholars, theologians, Hebrew specialists and philologists, enabling a methodical and synoptic overview of the vocabulary of the Hebrew Bible. William Robertson (died c. 1686), a Scottish orientalist and lexicographer, taught Hebrew in London before being appointed professor of Hebrew at Cambridge in 1680. His *Thesaurus linguae sanctae* is his magnum opus and forms part of the great Hebrew and biblical scholarship of the late 17th century.
