Porcelain dolls, marionettes, tin soldiers and wooden animals take to the stage to re-enact episodes from French history, featuring Charlemagne, Saint Geneviève, Frédégonde and Brunehaut, Joan of Arc, Henry IV, Richelieu, Louis XIV, etc. A fine copy. 2/ - Trogan, É. - Les Mots historiques du Pays de France. Second edition. Tours, Mame, 1896. Large quarto, the publisher’s beige percaline, red cloth spine, elaborate decoration on the front cover, red edges, small stains near the clasps, scattered foxing - 91 pp., [1 p.], 20 plates, vignettes in the text, by Job. From Clovis – ‘Clotilde’s God, save the Franks, and I shall believe in thee’ – to President Carnot – ‘in our beloved France there are no longer any political parties.’ A fine copy.
